Archaeological and Historical Research – Halil Myrto

Collection of Scientific Studies

This volume brings together a selection of archaeological and historical studies by Halil Myrto (1935–2002), documenting his scholarly work on the ancient and medieval heritage of Durrës and its surrounding regions.

The collection includes scientific articles, archaeological materials, maps, and excavation reports covering a wide range of subjects, from the early history of Durrës and ancient cult sites to archaeological settlements, Byzantine coins, monuments, and excavation campaigns conducted in the Durrës region.

Among the studies presented are investigations into ancient Dyrrachium, sanctuaries and cult spaces, archaeological sites between Kavaja and Durrës, the monuments and archaeological traces of the region, as well as excavation reports from Durrës-Kënetë, Durrës city, Gjuricaj, and Ishëm.

Selected for publication and scientifically edited by Afrim Hoti, this volume brings together and preserves an important body of archaeological research, making the work of Halil Myrto accessible to researchers, students, and the wider public interested in the archaeological and historical heritage of Albania.

Published in 2025 by Botimet Jozef, with the preparation for publication carried out by the Archaeological Museum of Durrës, the volume represents both a scholarly reference and a tribute to Halil Myrto’s contribution to Albanian archaeology.
